Shopify
Also written as Shopify Plus, Shopify Liquid, Liquid templates, Shopify Apps
A hosted e-commerce platform: merchants get a ready online store, and developers customise themes in Shopify's Liquid template language or build apps that plug into stores. Shopify Plus is the version for large brands.
Think of it like
Renting a fully fitted shop in a mall: the building, tills and security are provided, and you fit out the interior.
Junior or senior?
Junior sounds like
Edits themes and installs apps.
Senior sounds like
Builds custom Shopify apps or headless storefronts, and has kept a store up through big-sale traffic.
Ask them
“What's the most custom thing you've built on Shopify: a theme change, a private app, or a headless storefront?”
Reading Shopify on a resume
- Table-stakes
- Most people in this field list Shopify, so its presence tells you little, and opening a screen with it can make the call sound junior. Ask what they built with it instead.
- Around since 2006
- Nobody can have more years of Shopify than it has existed. A job description asking for more was probably copied without checking — worth raising with the hiring manager.
