RecruitLingo for Chrome and Edge: privacy

Everything is analysed in your browser. The extension reads a page only when you ask it to, and never sends page content, candidate details or your notes to RecruitLingo or anyone else.

What it reads, and when

When you click Explain, Decode, Match or Highlight, it reads the text you selected or the page you are on. It also reads a resume file you choose or drop into the panel. It reads nothing in the background and nothing on pages where you haven't clicked. Job descriptions, profiles and resumes can contain personal details; they are analysed in your browser and never leave it.

The one network request it makes is for a PDF that is open in a tab: when you ask the extension to read it, it downloads that file from the site it is on, using your existing sign-in to that site, and reads it in your browser like a file you dropped in.

What it keeps on your device

  • Saved roles: the job description text of each role you choose to save, and which role is active, in the browser's extension storage, until you delete the role.
  • Your shortlist: for each candidate you add, their name, where they came from (the site or the file name), the profile link, the role, the stage you set, the match score and verdict, missing skills, and the notice period, current and expected CTC, location, offers in hand and experience shown on the profile or typed by you. For a file or pasted text, a short fingerprint lets it recognise the same candidate again; the text itself is not kept.
  • Screening-call notes: what you type against each question during a call, and the notice, CTC, location and offer details you enter.
  • Settings: your site-access choice and whether “Keep my pipeline” is on.

By default the shortlist and call notes are held in session storage, which the browser clears when it closes or when the extension is reloaded, updated or turned off. If you turn on “Keep my pipeline”, they are kept on your device instead, and each candidate is deleted 90 days after you last changed them. “Delete all” in the panel's Roles tab removes them at any time. A shortlist you download for Excel is a file you keep. Candidate profiles and resumes themselves are never stored, and removing the extension deletes everything it kept.

What it never does

  • Send page content, candidate details, your notes or anything else off your device.
  • Use analytics, tracking, cookies or advertising.
  • Require an account or collect your personal information.
  • Sell, share or transfer data, or use it for anything other than the features above.
  • Load code from anywhere: everything it runs is in the package you install.

Links it opens

Links to recruitlingo.com, and the LinkedIn and Google search buttons next to Boolean strings, open only when you click them, in a normal tab. Those sites' own privacy policies apply there. This website's own pages use privacy-friendly page-view analytics, which the extension does not.

Permissions, and why

PermissionUsed for
activeTabRead the tab you are on, only right after you click the toolbar button, a right-click item or the shortcut.
scriptingRead that page's text, or your selection, on the click; show the explanation card next to the word you selected; and underline glossary terms when you click “Highlight terms”.
contextMenusThe “Explain with RecruitLingo” and “Decode this page” right-click items.
sidePanelThe panel where decodes, matches, call notes and the shortlist appear.
storageKeep your saved roles, your shortlist and call notes, and your settings on your device.
Site access (optional)Only if you choose “Allow on all sites” or “Recruiting sites only”, so Decode works on any tab without clicking the toolbar first and a PDF open in a tab can be read. Pages are still read only when you click. You can remove it from the panel, or from chrome://extensions or edge://extensions.
