ARIA
Also written as Accessible Rich Internet Applications, ARIA labels
A set of HTML attributes that give assistive technology (like screen readers) extra information about custom interactive elements that plain HTML alone doesn't convey.
Think of it like
Like adding braille labels to custom-shaped buttons a blind person couldn't otherwise identify by touch or standard shape alone.
Junior or senior?
Junior sounds like
Knows the acronym and adds ARIA attributes by copying examples.
Senior sounds like
Can describe a time ARIA was used incorrectly and actually made things worse for screen-reader users.
Ask them
“Have you seen ARIA attributes used incorrectly and actually make an experience worse for screen reader users? What happened?”
