Auto Scaling

Also written as Autoscaling

A cloud feature that automatically adds or removes servers/instances based on current demand, instead of running a fixed amount of capacity at all times.

Think of it like

Like a restaurant automatically calling in extra staff during a dinner rush and sending them home once it's quiet, instead of scheduling the same headcount all day.

Junior or senior?

Junior sounds like

Set up auto-scaling with default thresholds and never revisited them.

Senior sounds like

Has tuned the thresholds themselves and can describe a time scaling reacted too slowly, or scaled up when it shouldn't have.

Ask them

“Tell me about a time your auto-scaling setup didn't react fast enough, or scaled up when it shouldn't have.”
