Azure DevOps
Also written as Azure Pipelines, Azure Repos, Azure Boards, VSTS, TFS, Team Foundation Server
Microsoft's all-in-one suite for software teams: Boards (task tracking, like Jira), Repos (code hosting, like GitHub), Pipelines (CI/CD) and test management. It was previously called VSTS, and its on-premises predecessor was Team Foundation Server (TFS). Very common in .NET and Microsoft-centred enterprises.
Think of it like
One Microsoft building that holds the planning room, the archive and the factory floor under one roof.
Junior or senior?
Despite the name, it's a product, not the DevOps discipline. On a resume it can mean anything from moving tickets on Boards to building release pipelines.
Senior sounds like
Has written YAML pipelines and set up approvals and multi-stage releases.
Ask them
“Which part of Azure DevOps did you use day-to-day, and did you build the pipelines or use ones someone else set up?”
Sounds like real experience
Says which parts (Boards, Repos, Pipelines) they used and describes a pipeline they wrote or changed, such as adding a test stage or a manual approval before production.
Probe further if
Turns out to mean tracking tasks in Boards, or only running pipelines other people built — worth knowing before putting them forward for a DevOps role.
