End-to-End Testing

Also written as E2E Testing

Testing a complete user flow through the real, fully-assembled application (e.g. signing up, adding an item to cart, checking out) rather than testing pieces in isolation.

Think of it like

Like a full dress rehearsal of an entire play, versus rehearsing one actor's lines alone in a room.

Junior or senior?

Junior sounds like

Writes end-to-end tests for everything without weighing the cost.

Senior sounds like

Understands they're slower and more brittle, and can explain how their team decided what was worth covering at that level.

Ask them

“How did your team decide which flows were worth an end-to-end test, versus testing at a lower level?”
