ECS / Fargate

Also written as Elastic Container Service, AWS Fargate

AWS's own container orchestration services: ECS runs and schedules containers, and Fargate is the serverless option that runs them without you managing any underlying servers — an alternative to running Kubernetes yourself.

Think of it like

Like ECS is AWS's own in-house shipping-yard manager (versus bringing in Kubernetes as an outside contractor), and Fargate is choosing to rent that yard's trucks by the trip instead of owning and maintaining any trucks at all.

Junior or senior?

Junior sounds like

Can't explain why the team picked ECS/Fargate over Kubernetes.

Senior sounds like

Can describe what made it the right call over running their own cluster.

Ask them

“What made your team pick ECS/Fargate over running your own Kubernetes cluster (or EKS)?”
