Also written as Informatica, Informatica PowerCenter, IICS, SSIS, SQL Server Integration Services, Talend, DataStage, IBM DataStage, Ab Initio
Established enterprise ETL tools for moving and transforming data between systems, mostly through visual designers. Informatica PowerCenter, IBM DataStage and Ab Initio are widespread in banks, insurers and large IT services firms; SSIS comes with Microsoft SQL Server; Talend is a popular lower-cost option. Much new work now uses cloud tools such as dbt, Azure Data Factory or AWS Glue instead.
Think of it like
Machinery on a long-running factory floor: reliable and still producing, but new factories are fitted out differently.
Junior or senior?
Plenty of jobs maintain or migrate these estates. A resume with only these tools can mean a harder move into modern cloud data engineering.
Senior sounds like
Has led a migration off one, or can talk about tuning very large batch loads.
Ask them
“Have you moved any of these pipelines to a cloud tool? What was hard to translate?”
