ML Engineer

Builds, trains, deploys and maintains machine learning models in production: preparing data, training and tuning models, serving them, and monitoring them once live. Differs from an AI Engineer, who mostly builds products on existing models, and from a Data Scientist, who focuses on analysis and experiments.

The engineer who builds and maintains the engine, where the AI Engineer designs the car around a bought-in one.
Junior or senior?
Titles are used loosely, so check the work.
Senior sounds like
Has owned a model in production — retraining, monitoring for drift and handling a model that got worse over time.
Ask them
“Tell me about a model you owned in production. How did you know when it needed retraining?”
