PLC / SCADA

Also written as PLC, SCADA, PLC Programming, Ladder Logic, Industrial Automation, HMI

The control systems of factories, power plants and water works. PLCs are rugged computers that run machines (often programmed in ladder logic), and SCADA systems monitor and control whole plants from a control room. Siemens, Rockwell (Allen-Bradley) and Schneider are the common makers.

Think of it like

PLCs are the reflexes of each machine; SCADA is the control room watching the whole factory.

Junior or senior?

An industrial engineering skill, different from IT software.

Senior sounds like

Has commissioned a system on a live plant and handled a shutdown or safety interlock.

Ask them

“Which PLC or SCADA platform did you work on, and have you commissioned a system on a live plant?”

Reading PLC / SCADA on a resume

Common
PLC / SCADA narrows the field but doesn't prove depth on its own. The junior-versus-senior contrast above is what separates one candidate from another.
Around since 1968
Nobody can have more years of PLC / SCADA than it has existed. A job description asking for more was probably copied without checking — worth raising with the hiring manager.
