Semantic Layer

A single place where a company defines its business metrics, such as 'active customer' or 'monthly revenue', once, so every dashboard, spreadsheet and AI tool calculates them the same way. Increasingly important because AI tools that answer data questions need these agreed definitions to give correct numbers.
Think of it like
A company dictionary, so 'revenue' means the same thing in finance's report as in sales'.

“Which metric did two teams calculate differently, and how did you get them to one definition?”
