Supervised vs Unsupervised Learning

Also written as Supervised Learning, Unsupervised Learning, Semi-Supervised Learning

Whether the model learns from examples that already carry the right answer, or has to find structure in data nobody has marked up. Supervised needs labels; unsupervised does not.

Think of it like

Revising with an answer key, versus sorting a pile of photographs into groups nobody has named yet.

Junior or senior?

Basic vocabulary, so the useful signal is which one their work actually was.

Senior sounds like

Can say where the labels came from and what they cost to get.

Ask them

“Was your model learning from labelled examples? Where did those labels come from?”
