Trino / Presto

Also written as Trino, Presto, PrestoDB, Amazon Athena, Athena, Starburst

A query engine that runs SQL across data wherever it sits — files in a data lake, several databases, a warehouse — without first copying it all into one place. Created at Facebook as Presto; Trino is the fork maintained by its original authors. Amazon Athena is a managed service built on it, and Starburst sells a commercial version.

Think of it like

A researcher with a card for every library in town, who answers your question without moving the books.

Junior or senior?

Senior sounds like

Has tuned slow queries, understands why file layout and partitioning matter, and can say which workloads it was the wrong tool for.

Ask them

“What made a Trino or Athena query slow for you, and how did you fix it?”
