Write the Spreadsheet Formulas for a Tracker

When to use it

The prompt

Write {{Google Sheets / Excel}} formulas for a recruiting tracker. My sheet's columns: {{list them exactly as they're named, e.g. A: Candidate, B: Req, C: Stage, D: Date Applied, E: Date Offered, F: Source, G: Outcome}} Stages in my process, in order: {{e.g. Applied, Screen, HM Interview, Onsite, Offer, Hired}} I need formulas for: {{list what you want — e.g. average days from applied to offer, pass-through rate between each stage, offer accept rate, candidates per source, count of active candidates per req}} For each one: give me the formula, explain in plain English what it's doing, and tell me what it will return if the data is incomplete (blank dates, candidates still in process) so I know when the number is lying to me.

Tip

Ask what the formula does with in-process candidates. Most recruiting averages get quietly wrong because people still in the pipeline are either counted as zero or excluded entirely, and the two give very different answers.

How to use it

Paste the prompt into ChatGPT, Claude or whichever assistant you use, then replace every {{bracketed}} part with your own detail. The more specific and messier your input, the better the output — a model given raw notes has more to work with than one given a tidy summary you wrote first.
