Diversity Sourcing Strategy
When to use it
Widen where and how you source for a role, so the pipeline isn't drawn from the same few companies and schools every time.
The prompt
Help me build a sourcing strategy for a {{Job Title}} role that reaches a wider range of qualified candidates than my default channels do. MY DEFAULT CHANNELS TODAY: {{e.g. LinkedIn Recruiter, referrals, two job boards}} WHERE MY LAST FEW HIRES CAME FROM: {{companies, schools, sources, if known}} LOCATION AND WORK MODEL: {{where the person can be}} REQUIREMENTS THAT MIGHT BE FILTERING PEOPLE OUT: {{degree requirement, years of experience, specific tools, title history}} Give me: 1. 4-6 communities, organisations, bootcamps, meetups or platforms outside my default channels where qualified people for this role actually spend time, with a note on how to show up there without spamming. 2. Search-string changes that stop me over-indexing on companies and schools I already search: alternative titles, skills-based terms, non-traditional backgrounds that do the same work. 3. Which of my requirements narrows the pool most relative to what it predicts, and broader wording for it. 4. One thing about my outreach message or job post that might be narrowing who responds. 5. What to track per channel (response rate, pass-through, hires) so I know within a month which changes worked. Keep it to skills-based sourcing: widen where I look, and never filter or rank people by a protected characteristic.
Tip
Fix the requirements and the message before adding channels. A wider search that still demands a CS degree and the same five years of one tool sends new people into the old filter, and you end up with the same shortlist.
How to use it
Paste the prompt into ChatGPT, Claude or whichever assistant you use, then replace every {{bracketed}} part with your own detail. The more specific and messier your input, the better the output — a model given raw notes has more to work with than one given a tidy summary you wrote first.
