Design a Structured Interview Scorecard

When to use it

The prompt

Build a structured interview scorecard for a {{Job Title}} role at {{level}}. THE 4-6 THINGS THAT ACTUALLY DECIDE THIS HIRE: {{from the intake, not the full JD wish list}} THE INTERVIEW LOOP: {{the rounds, and which round owns which requirement if that's decided}} WHO WILL FILL THIS IN: {{engineers, the hiring manager, non-technical interviewers, or a mix}} For each requirement, give me: 1. A one-line definition of what it means at this level, so two interviewers aren't scoring different things under the same heading. 2. A 1-4 scale describing what each score looks like in an actual answer — what the candidate said or did, not an adjective like "strong" or "solid". 3. One primary question and one follow-up probe that target it. 4. The evidence prompt: what the interviewer should write down, as close to verbatim as possible, to justify the score. Then: 5. An overall recommendation field (strong no / no / yes / strong yes, with no neutral middle) and a rule that it's filled in only after the per-requirement scores. 6. A suggested owner round for each requirement, flagging anything assessed by nobody or by three people. 7. Any requirement that is really "culture fit" or likeability under another name, with the observable behaviour to score instead. Lay it out as a table I can paste into a form or my ATS scorecard builder.

Tip

Use a four-point scale with no middle. A 3 out of 5 is where interviewers park a candidate they haven't made their mind up about, and a debrief full of 3s gives you nothing to decide with.

How to use it

Paste the prompt into ChatGPT, Claude or whichever assistant you use, then replace every {{bracketed}} part with your own detail. The more specific and messier your input, the better the output — a model given raw notes has more to work with than one given a tidy summary you wrote first.
