A2A Protocol

Also written as A2A, Agent2Agent, Agent-to-Agent Protocol

An open standard, launched by Google in 2025, for AI agents built by different companies or teams to discover each other and hand off tasks. It complements MCP, which connects one agent to tools and data.

Think of it like

A shared booking system that lets travel agents from different agencies pass customers to each other.

Junior or senior?

Very new, so real production use is rare and a JD that demands years of it is unrealistic. Credit a candidate who can clearly explain how it differs from MCP.

Ask them

“How is A2A different from MCP, and where did you use it (or decide not to)?”
