Bluetooth Low Energy

Also written as BLE, Bluetooth LE, Core Bluetooth, Bluetooth Smart

The low-power version of Bluetooth (introduced in 2010) that phones use to talk to nearby devices: fitness trackers, smartwatches, medical devices, smart locks, car accessories and other IoT hardware. Apps use Core Bluetooth on iOS and Android's Bluetooth APIs. Notoriously fiddly, because behaviour varies between phone models and the hardware itself.

Think of it like

A walkie-talkie conversation with a gadget that has a tiny battery, so both sides have to talk briefly and politely.

Junior or senior?

A specialist skill that's hard to fake and hard to hire for.

Senior sounds like

Has debugged connection problems on specific phone models or device firmware and can explain how they tested with real hardware.

Ask them

“What's the hardest Bluetooth connection problem you've debugged, and how did you test across different phones and devices?”
