ITIL

Also written as ITIL v4, ITIL 4, ITIL v3, ITIL Foundation, ITSM, IT Service Management, Problem Management

The most widely used set of good practices for running IT services: how incidents are logged and resolved, how recurring problems are traced to a root cause, and how changes are approved before they reach live systems. ITIL Foundation is the common entry certificate; ServiceNow and BMC Remedy are the usual ITSM (IT service management) tools.

Think of it like

The standard operating manual for an IT department, the way a hospital has set procedures for admission, diagnosis and surgery.

Junior or senior?

ITIL Foundation is common and says little on its own.

Senior sounds like

Can explain the difference between an incident and a problem from their own work, and has run or sat on a change advisory board (CAB).

Ask them

“Give me an example of an incident that turned into a problem record. What was the root cause, and how was it fixed for good?”

Most people in this field list ITIL, so its presence tells you little, and opening a screen with it can make the call sound junior. Ask what they built with it instead.

Where this talent works in India — Networking & IT Infrastructure

Target companies that build networking gear or run large networks and data centres themselves: equipment makers, telecom operators, data-centre operators and infrastructure-services firms. Help-desk-heavy outsourcing contracts use the same titles with far less design work, so ask who designed the network, not just who kept it running.

For example: Cisco, Juniper Networks (HPE), HPE Aruba Networking, Arista Networks, Extreme Networks, F5, Infoblox, Nokia.
