Responsive Design

Designing web pages so they adapt cleanly to different screen sizes — phone, tablet, desktop.

Think of it like

Like furniture that automatically rearranges itself to fit whichever room you put it in, whether a studio apartment or a mansion.

Junior or senior?

Junior sounds like

Says the site 'works on mobile too.'

Senior sounds like

Can walk through the actual approach to making one layout work well from phone to desktop.

Ask them

“Walk me through how you'd approach a layout that needs to work well on both a phone and a large desktop screen.”

Sounds like real experience

Describes a specific breakpoint or layout decision — where it was set and why, or a component that genuinely broke at certain widths and how they fixed it.

Probe further if

Says 'I use media queries' without describing an actual layout that broke, or credits a CSS framework for making the design responsive 'automatically.'
