RTL Design
Also written as Register Transfer Level, RTL Designer, RTL Coding
The front-end chip design step: writing a circuit's behaviour at register-transfer level in Verilog or VHDL, defining how data moves between registers on each clock cycle. Its output goes on to verification and then physical design.
Think of it like
Drawing the wiring diagram for every room before the builders lay any cable.
Junior or senior?
Junior sounds like
Codes blocks to someone else's micro-architecture.
Senior sounds like
Wrote the micro-architecture and balanced speed, power and chip area.
Ask them
“Did you write the micro-architecture for your block, or code to someone else's? What trade-off did you make?”
Reading RTL Design on a resume
- Common
- RTL Design narrows the field but doesn't prove depth on its own. The junior-versus-senior contrast above is what separates one candidate from another.
