Salesforce Certifications
Also written as Salesforce Certified Administrator, Salesforce Administrator Certification, Platform Developer I, Platform Developer II, Salesforce Platform Developer, Salesforce PD1, Salesforce PD2, Salesforce Certified Technical Architect, Salesforce Certified Application Architect
Salesforce's own exams, organised by role: Administrator for configuration, Platform Developer I and II for code, consultant exams for specific clouds, and architect levels at the top. Certified Technical Architect (CTA) is rare and highly valued.
Think of it like
Endorsements on a driving licence: one for cars, one for trucks, one for buses. Each proves a specific test was passed; only the road proves you drive well.
Junior or senior?
Common in India and often required by Salesforce partners, so certificates alone say little. Platform Developer II and architect certificates are a stronger signal than Administrator.
Senior sounds like
Can name the work behind each certificate.
Ask them
“Which Salesforce certifications do you hold, and which one was hardest to apply in real work?”
Sounds like real experience
Links each certificate to real project work, and can say what the exam didn't prepare them for.
Probe further if
Holds several certificates passed in quick succession but describes little hands-on work behind them.
Reading Salesforce Certifications on a resume
- Table-stakes
- Most people in this field list Salesforce Certifications, so its presence tells you little, and opening a screen with it can make the call sound junior. Ask what they built with it instead.
Don’t mix it up
- Salesforce Admin vs. Developer vs. Consultant
'Salesforce experience' covers three different jobs. Admins configure the platform with clicks: fields, page layouts, permissions, reports and flows. Developers write code: Apex, Lightning Web Components and integrations. Functional consultants work with the business to decide how Salesforce should be set up, and write the requirements. The pay and interview loops differ, and certifications don't always make the difference clear.
