Credible resume terms

Terms that should plausibly appear on a real Salesforce Developer resume. “Must-have” marks the ones whose total absence is a genuine red flag.

  • Salesforce

A dominant enterprise CRM platform with its own development ecosystem (Apex, Visualforce, Lightning) — 'Salesforce Developer' and 'Salesforce Admin' are distinct, specialized career tracks largely separate from general software engineering.

  • Apex (Salesforce)Must-have

Salesforce's own programming language, similar to Java, for business logic that the point-and-click tools can't handle: triggers that run when a record changes, scheduled and batch jobs, and integrations.

  • Lightning Web Components (LWC)Must-have

Salesforce's current way of building custom screens, using standard JavaScript and web components.

  • SOQL / SOSLMust-have

Salesforce's query languages. SOQL looks like SQL and fetches records from Salesforce objects such as Accounts and Opportunities; SOSL searches text across several objects at once.

  • Salesforce Flow

Salesforce's point-and-click automation tool: when a record changes or a user steps through a screen, a flow updates records, sends emails or calls other systems without code.

  • Sales Cloud / Service Cloud

Salesforce's product lines for different business areas: Sales Cloud for sales teams, Service Cloud for customer support, Experience Cloud for customer and partner portals, plus Marketing, Commerce and industry clouds.

  • Salesforce DevOps (SFDX, Copado)

How Salesforce changes move from a developer's sandbox to the live org.

  • Salesforce Certifications

Salesforce's own exams, organised by role: Administrator for configuration, Platform Developer I and II for code, consultant exams for specific clouds, and architect levels at the top.

  • JavaScript

The core programming language of the web, used to make pages interactive; also runs on servers via Node.js.

  • REST API

A common style for designing web APIs around standard HTTP verbs (GET, POST, PUT, DELETE) and resource URLs.

  • Unit Testing

Automated tests that check a single small piece of code (like one function) in isolation to make sure it behaves correctly.

  • Git

The standard tool for tracking changes to code over time and enabling multiple people to collaborate on the same codebase without overwriting each other's work.

Salesforce Developer: screening questions

One question per core skill, must-haves first. Each term’s page shows what a junior and a senior answer sound like.

  1. Lightning Web Components (LWC)

“Have you moved any Aura or Visualforce pages to LWC? What was hard about it?”

  2. Apex (Salesforce)

“Tell me about an Apex trigger or batch job that hit governor limits. How did you fix it?”

  3. SOQL / SOSL

“What's the slowest SOQL query you've had to fix, and what did you change?”

  4. Salesforce DevOps (SFDX, Copado)

“How did changes get from your sandbox to production? Who set that up, and what went wrong with deployments?”

  5. Salesforce

“Was your Salesforce work custom development (Apex, Lightning components), or configuration and administration within the platform's existing tools?”

Adjacent, but not real signal

These read as related, but they don’t tell you this candidate can do this job — they usually belong to one of the roles below.

  • Low-Code / No-Code

Platforms that let people build apps and workflows mostly by dragging components and filling in forms rather than writing code.

  • MuleSoft (Integration Platforms)

Platforms for connecting a company's many systems (CRM, ERP, core banking, databases and SaaS apps) so data flows between them without custom code for every pair.

  • ServiceNow

A cloud platform companies use to run IT support and internal workflows such as tickets, change requests, asset tracking and HR requests.

Most often confused with

  • Salesforce Administrator
  • ServiceNow Developer

Builds and customises applications on ServiceNow: scripts with GlideRecord, business rules and client scripts, Flow Designer workflows, integrations, and modules such as ITSM, ITOM or HRSD. Different from a ServiceNow administrator, who configures forms, users and catalogue items, and from the many people who only work tickets inside it.

Salesforce Developer: search strings

Title and must-have skills

"Salesforce Developer" AND ("Apex" OR "Apex Triggers" OR "Apex Classes" OR "Batch Apex") AND ("Lightning Web Components" OR "LWC" OR "Lightning Web Component") AND ("SOQL" OR "SOSL" OR "Salesforce Object Query Language")

Start here on LinkedIn or Naukri, where the job title is indexed far better than the skill list.

Must-have skills only

("Apex" OR "Apex Triggers" OR "Apex Classes" OR "Batch Apex") AND ("Lightning Web Components" OR "LWC" OR "Lightning Web Component") AND ("SOQL" OR "SOSL" OR "Salesforce Object Query Language")

For candidates with a different job title. Expect a wider, noisier list.
