Salesforce Flow

Also written as Flow Builder, Salesforce Flows, Record-Triggered Flow, Screen Flow, Process Builder

Salesforce's point-and-click automation tool: when a record changes or a user steps through a screen, a flow updates records, sends emails or calls other systems without code. It replaced Process Builder and Workflow Rules, which Salesforce stopped supporting at the end of 2025.

Think of it like

Setting up a building's automatic doors and lights from a control panel instead of rewiring them.

Junior or senior?

Admins and developers both use it, so it doesn't separate them.

Senior sounds like

Knows when a flow is the right tool and when the logic belongs in Apex, and has moved old Process Builder or Workflow Rules automation to Flow.

Ask them

“When do you build something as a flow and when do you write Apex instead? Give me an example of each.”

Sounds like real experience

Gives a real example of each and a reason, such as data volume, complex logic or who maintains it afterwards, and mentions a flow that misbehaved and how they fixed it.

Probe further if

Uses flows for everything or code for everything, and can't say where the line is.

Reading Salesforce Flow on a resume

Table-stakes
Most people in this field list Salesforce Flow, so its presence tells you little, and opening a screen with it can make the call sound junior. Ask what they built with it instead.

Don’t mix it up

  • Salesforce Admin vs. Developer vs. Consultant

'Salesforce experience' covers three different jobs. Admins configure the platform with clicks: fields, page layouts, permissions, reports and flows. Developers write code: Apex, Lightning Web Components and integrations. Functional consultants work with the business to decide how Salesforce should be set up, and write the requirements. The pay and interview loops differ, and certifications don't always make the difference clear.
