Semantic Versioning
Also written as SemVer
A version-numbering convention (MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH) where each part signals a specific kind of change — breaking, backward-compatible feature, or bug fix — so consumers know what to expect from an upgrade.
Think of it like
Like a food recall label that tells you at a glance whether this batch changed the recipe (major), added a topping (minor), or just fixed a typo on the box (patch).
Junior or senior?
Junior sounds like
Knows the SemVer convention exists without having used it under pressure.
Senior sounds like
Has maintained a package and can describe deciding whether a change was breaking enough for a major version bump.
Ask them
“Have you maintained a package or library where you had to decide whether a change was breaking enough for a major version bump?”
