Spec-Driven Development
Also written as Spec Kit, Kiro
A way of working with AI coding agents where the developer first writes a clear specification (what the feature must do, its constraints and how it will be tested) and the agent builds from that, instead of improvising from a chat prompt. GitHub's Spec Kit and Amazon's Kiro are tools built around the idea.
Think of it like
Giving a builder approved drawings rather than describing the house over the phone.
Junior or senior?
A new, loosely defined label, so ask what they actually did.
Senior sounds like
Can show how writing the spec first changed the outcome, such as fewer rewrites or easier code review.
Ask them
“What went into your spec, and what went wrong on the occasions you skipped it?”
