Espresso / XCUITest
Also written as Espresso, XCUITest, XCTest, Maestro, Compose UI Testing
The built-in frameworks for automated testing of mobile apps: Espresso for Android and XCTest/XCUITest for iOS, which tap through screens like a user would and check the results. Maestro is a newer tool for writing simple, readable mobile UI tests across both platforms. Appium (a separate term) is the long-standing cross-platform alternative.
Think of it like
A robot that picks up the phone and taps through the app exactly like a careful tester, every time code changes.
Junior or senior?
Many mobile teams have few or no UI tests, so real experience is a plus.
Senior sounds like
Can talk about keeping tests from being flaky and which flows were worth automating.
Ask them
“Which parts of your app did you cover with automated UI tests, and how did you deal with flaky tests?”
