New-Hire Onboarding Survey

When to use it

The prompt

Design a {{30/60/90}}-day onboarding survey for new hires at {{Company Name}}. WHAT I ALREADY SUSPECT IS WEAK: {{...}} WHAT WE CHANGED SINCE THE LAST COHORT: {{if anything}} WHO SEES THE RESULTS: {{HR only, the manager, the exec team}} HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE IN THIS COHORT: {{...}} Give me: 1. Eight questions, mixing scales and open text, covering role clarity, manager support, whether they had what they needed to do the work, and whether the job matches what we described during the process. 2. For each, what a bad answer would tell me to go and fix. 3. The single question that most reliably predicts early attrition, and where in the survey to put it. 4. What not to ask, because the answer is unusable or the question isn't anonymous enough to answer honestly. 5. If this cohort is small enough that answers aren't really anonymous, say so and tell me what to change. 6. How to word the question about the recruiting process itself so people will criticise me honestly. Short enough to finish in four minutes.

Tip

Ask whether the job matches what they were told during hiring. It's the one question that audits your own promises, and it's the first thing to check when new hires leave inside a year.

How to use it

Paste the prompt into ChatGPT, Claude or whichever assistant you use, then replace every {{bracketed}} part with your own detail. The more specific and messier your input, the better the output — a model given raw notes has more to work with than one given a tidy summary you wrote first.
